Job Summary

Position responsible for managing the security programs at a Memorial Hermann Hospital campus and is accountable for the operations and development of security support services at assigned campus, including the management of security staff. Directs and/or supervises security programs for larger facilities with less than 750,000 square feet and with more than 2 security FTE’s.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Associates of Science in Criminal Justice, Management,  or  related field preferred, or  the equivalent in training  or experience

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (if not certified upon date of hire)

  • Must be Certified as a Certified Healthcare Advanced Security Officer by IAHSS  and must obtain Supervisor certification no more than six (6) months after hire)

  • Must be licensed as a Commissioned Security Officer by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (if not licensed upon date of hire, must obtain license no more than  six (6) months after hire)

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license upon hire (if from out of state, must obtain a Texas Driver’s license within 90 days of employment)

  • Based on business need, may be required to meet the Security Services requirements to carry a firearm 

  • Must be certified in Heartsaver® CPR or Heartcode BLS CPR by the American Heart Association (if not certified upon date of hire, must obtain certification no more than 90 days after hire)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Age Requirement:  Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Three (3) years Security, Military, or Law Enforcement experience with heavy customer contact, or the equivalent in training and supervisory experience; minimum of one (1) years supervisory experience  Healthcare experience preferred

  • Knowledge of Texas Penal Code, security reports and investigations, and JCAHO security standards

  • Must be able to understand the English language and communicate it effectively in both verbal and written form. Proficiency in the use of computers is required

  • Must be able to meet Physical Fitness Requirements as outlined in the System Security Physical Fitness Standard (see the Standard for details)

Principal Accountabilities

  • Remains visible and interfaces directly with administration, property managers, physicians, employees and customers in a manner which reflects Memorial Hermann’s purpose and values.

  • Ensures compliance with all Security codes, licensing, and reporting requirements required by JCAHO or State/local regulations. Conducts follow-up investigations on reported security incidents and implements performance improvement initiatives when required.

  • Provides personal protection to VIP’s, Memorial Hermann senior leadership and employees.

  • Keeps customers and managers informed and involved; constantly monitors and evaluates services on an ongoing basis.

  • Assists with budget preparation, analyzes financial statements and takes necessary actions to control and reduce costs. Ensures adequate supplies are available and within budget constraints for assigned unit.

  • Hires, coaches, and terminates staff; remains objective when dealing with issues; seeks input and provides consistent and timely feedback; remains accessible and visible to staff; communicates consistently with staff; coordinates and participates in security training and development programs; schedules and maintains Security coverage.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors, adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
