Job Summary
The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (BB) I role is specifically designed to facilitate significant quality, process and performance improvement activities, using Lean Six Sigma methodologies. Black Belts are deployed throughout the organization to execute process improvement projects that drive breakthrough improvement in customer satisfaction, process capability, and quality.Additional duties include coaching and mentoring Green Belts, sponsors, and champions in the use of Lean Six Sigma methodology. Following completion of a rigorous training program, serve as an expert resource to the organization on Six Sigma philosophy, theory, and application of tools and tactics.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelors Degree required
Licenses/Certifications: Black Belt certification required, external certification from an approved training program preferred; Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- One (1) to three (3) years experience with change management, project management, continuous performance improvement and/or data analysis, preferably in healthcare setting
- Demonstrated desire to learn new skills and drive changes in a positive spirit of cooperation and collaboration
- Solid skills in data collection and data entry; aptitude for math and statistical concepts (formal class work in basic statistics preferred)
- Proficiency with Office computer tools (e.g. Power Point, Excel, Access, Word)
- High degree of customer sensitivity and attention to detail; outstanding communication skills, including listening skills; demonstrated formal/informal leadership skills; demonstrated track record of results from project management, team facilitation or improvement team participation; time management skills
- Proficiency in statistical software preferred (e.g. Minitab, SPSS)
- Strong proven business acumen and ability to translate work to leadership level
- Facile with working with physicians
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
Principal Accountabilities
- Lead a team/project with limited help from a Master Black Belt (MBB).
- Define the goal for improvement, the defects to be eliminated or improved, the team members and the metrics.
- Develop and implement a plan for essential data collection, and thorough analysis utilizing statistical software and effective data manipulation and analysis design.
- Work with and through team members and sponsor, design and implement a pilot for improvement strategies.
- Identify and/or develop metrics to be tracked.
- Design a control plan, including a tracking tool and dashboard reporting tool.
- Develop effective “Hand-off” strategies.
- Provide regular project reviews to the Sponsor and/or Executive Leadership, including developing and presenting the PowerPoint Presentations.
- Coach and mentor Green Belts, sponsors, and champions following prescribed courses and monitor projects throughout the entire process, ensuring timely and successful completion
- Establish strong team relationships, building trust and open communication regarding project issues and results – both with specific project team members as well as with the GB/BB/MBB.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
