Melissa Mourgan, Certified Surgical Technologist CVOR "My favorite thing, the most magical thing, is heart transplant when the heart starts beating again in a new body. That’s a miracle. I love being a part of that. Even though currently I’m on weekend nights I do not have an obligation to take call, but I do sometimes to help out when I can.

I also really enjoy the challenge of what I do, especially for me on weekends when I have minutes to get set up and ready for a patient coming by Life Flight straight to the OR. I love being the best at my job, it’s challenging to work in CV because you need to know so much beyond what you learn in school. I did a lot of reading when I started learning hearts. It’s such a small chapter in most programs and barely touched upon. Now I know so much that there’s not a need to really have surgeons say anything during cases. It’s a well oiled machine. They just expect you to know and I’ve been scrubbing hearts ten years now so I’ve definitely learned so much from when I started."

Milan Lopez, Certified Surgical Technologist Trauma OR "My favorite part of this job is being surrounded by some of the most talented in teh business and having the opportunity to wok hand in hand with them. And most importantly, playing a small part in improving the lives of others.

My colleagues are team players, hard workers, reliable talented and strong patient advocates.

No place, profession or life is perfect, but it is what you make of i. I am grateful and thankful to play such an instrumental role in my position. Doing the most with what has been given to me and acquiring the skills and knowledge to do more."
