Essential Job Functions
Role: Registered Nurse (RN)
COMPUTER: Requires ability to work at a computer workstation at least 2 hours a day throughout the workday.
SIT: Employee requires tolerance of continuous seated posture at different intervals throughout work day for at least 1-2 hours per 12 hr. day.
STAND/WALK: Employee requires tolerance of continuous standing posture, frequently walking level/unlevel surfaces as well as ramps long distances up to a total of 11 hrs. per 12 hr. day while performing patient care.
PUSH/PULL: Employee is required to demonstrate ability to push/pull computer on wheels, as well as other medical equipment such as surgical case carts, surgical beds/tables and stretchers. Navigating ramps at a 5 degree incline while pushing various types of patient beds from patient room to various procedures such as imaging and surgery, requiring a force up to 80 - 100 lbs. force.
OVERHEAD REACH: Employee must be able to access medical equipment requiring overhead reaching varying heights up to 81 in. in height.
TRANSFER: Employee, with assistance of other personnel, will transfer patients, using various types of transfer aids, from patient bed/ stretcher to wheelchair/operating table. Requires occasional horizontal transfer of patients weighing more than 100 lbs., with assistance.
LIFT/CARRY: Employee is required to lift/carry items weighing up to 25 lbs., a distance of up to 10 ft – 25ft. Items carried include but are not limited to surgical trays, IV fluid bags, plasma blade, AquamantysTM machines.
FINE MOTOR: Requires sufficient fine motor skills to operate medical equipment including but not limited to Pyxis medication dispensing systems, patient vital signs monitors, operating room positioning equipment such as Hana and Arch tables.
REACH/TURN/TWIST/BEND/STOOP: Requires various twisting, turning or other working positions for a prolonged period of time including but not limited to forward STOOP reaching, bending, stooping, twisting, turning positions while standing and walking. Employee may work in these positions on a frequent basis while operating medical equipment such as Hana® table, arch table, patient beds, loading/unloading surgical case carts, retrieving supplies from Pyxis machine, checking foley bags, etc. In addition the employee may maintain awkward position for ≥ 5 minutes holding body part e.g. grooming a patient in bed, preparing a patient for surgery while maintaining sterile field.
ENVIRONMENT: Employee must tolerate working environment which consists of varying temperatures and lighting.
PPE: Employee must demonstrate competency to observe universal precautions for infection control from blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases as required to protect from human blood and certain human body fluids. PPE would include but not limited to gloves, gowns/ aprons, masks/respirators.
Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) designated positions will be subject to the federal respiratory protection standard as per 29 CFR 1910.134 requiring medical clearance and a passing Fit test to don a respirator. Additionally, as per the same regulation, facial hair affecting the seal on a tight-fitting negative pressure respirator is not allowable for Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) designated positions.
