Distinguished for Innovation and Leadership in Nursing

Memorial Hermann is proud to have eight facilities recognized for their nursing professionalism, teamwork and excellence in patient care by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®

The Magnet Recognition Program honors health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovation in professional nursing practice. Magnet recognition is the highest possible organizational credential granted by the ANCC, the largest nursing credentialing organization in the United States. To earn Magnet status, hospitals must excel in several areas, including standards and practices, patient care and innovations in nursing leadership and management.

"Magnet truly is the gold standard of nursing excellence," said Leah Blackwell, vice president and chief nursing officer for Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital. "It not only signifies a commitment to providing exceptional care for our community, it is also a testament to workplace satisfaction, where our nurses feel they can flourish as a professional and be recognized for going above and beyond for patients."

The foundation of this model comprises various elements deemed essential to delivering superior patient care. These include the quality of nursing leadership and coordination and collaboration across specialties, as well as processes for measuring and improving the quality and delivery of care.

Memorial Hermann Institute for Nursing Excellence

Memorial Hermann Health System recognizes that nurses are critical to improving outcomes for their patients. The new Memorial Hermann Institute for Nursing Excellence is focused on elevating the nursing profession, accelerating innovation to the bedside, strengthening the nursing workforce and optimizing clinical and operational outcomes.

Because nurses are often the most patient-facing members of health care, holding hands of patients at the bedside and guiding them through their health journey, Memorial Hermann recognized the need for a system that could listen to those voices and design initiatives and practice changes based on nurse recommendations, while offering health and well-being care and support to nurses while they care for our community.

"Many great ideas come from the bedside," says Caitlin McVey, associate vice president of Memorial Hermann's Institute for Nursing Excellence. "Because health care is such a fastpaced environment, having a structure dreiven by the bedside staff will help Memorial Hermann accelerate new ideas and innovation. The Institute for Nursing Excellence allows us to take the time to create an infrastructure so our nurses can be the drivers of that change."

The goal of the Institute is to create an innovative environment to re-imagine care at the bedside, attract and retain top talent, excel in execution and foster an inclusive environment for nurse for generations to come. The Memorial Hermann Institute for Nursing Excellence will help create new and exciting career opportunities for our nurses and innovative care for our patients.
